His owner, Karen Pascoe, had supporters from all over that even boycotted American Airlines, who were in possession of him when he went missing. It was determined that one of the JFK employees stacked one cage on top of the other and Jack's cage fell and he escaped.
Search parties and a Facebook following of over 24,000 followers kept the story in the news and a few days after the last search, Jack fell from through one of the ceiling panels above the customs room.
Jack had develop a liver condition, from his ordeal and had wounds on his back that would not heal because of his malnutrition.
Under veterinarian care, it was discovered that his infections were getting worse despite antibiotics.
On Jack's Facebook page it reads,
We thank everyone who has gone on this journey with us. We have been introduced to people we have come to not only respect, but love. We will continue our work on this page… and will also be starting a dedicated website in Jack’s honor."
