Humane Society euthanizes homeless mans cat

About a month ago, I saw a young man sitting on the ground in front of the Rite Aid in Santee, California.  I figured by his clothing he was probably homeless, but as I got closer he didn't ask me for any money, nor even notice me, but I noticed that he had a cat with him on a leash.

When I can back out and got into my car, I sat there for a few moments watching him play with his cat.   You could tell the cat was very happy and didn't even care about the leash and the man was gentle and adored the cat.   I knew that they were helping each other.  I also knew that the man probably felt responsible for the cat and gave him a reason to live.  This was no missing cat or lost homeless man as they had found each other.

Then this morning I read a story from the Associated Press about Daniel Dockery who was a recovering heroin addict in Phoenix.  His cat, Scruffy had a deep cut and he took him to a Arizona Humane Society, so the cat could be treated.  The staff told Daniel that the cost was $400 to treat Scruffy.  Daniel was homeless, he didn't have the money.  Daniel's mother offered to pay, but the clinic would not accept credit cards, but the clinic said if Daniel signed papers surrendering Scruffy to them, he would be treated and put into foster care.

Missing bulldog held for ransom found dead

Jagger, the missing English bulldog that was allegedly kidnapped, has been found dead.

Jagger's owner, Jennifer Thomas, from Woodland, Washington told the KATU in Portland, Oregon that someone had kidnapped Jagger, because she was receiving  text messages saying they would torture Jagger if she did not pay the ransom of $1,000 and prescription pain killers.  Jennifer is in a wheelchair. The text messages also included a picture of Jagger tied with a chain.

Monday morning, Jagger was found along side the railroad tracks in the 2400 block of Talley Way in Kelso. Authorities estimate he had been dead 24-36 hours.

"We've put many hours into this case, and I hate that the dog was killed, whether by a train, or any other means.  We'll follow any leads we get to find who took Jagger," said Sheriff Mark Nelson.

A veterinarian will examine Jagger to see if he was tortured and the cause of death.

Kudos to Sheriff Nelson for following up on this tragic case.

My thoughts are that whoever had Jagger, became scared when the media got to the story, and let Jagger loose and he lost his life trying to find his way back to Jennifer.

Jack Hanna, a wildlife expert and tv celebrity defended the actions of the sheriff who had to kill 49 wild exotic pets including rare Bengal tigers, lions and bears.

"Tragedy-wise for me, probably the worst thing in 45 years of history of woking with animals…I've seen poachers kill in the wild.  I've seen animals killed right in front of me with their horns cut off.  I've seen a lot of things happen in my career, but nothing like this have I ever witnessed."

Hanna is talking about the wild animals that were released from Terry Thompson's private zoo in Zanesville, Ohio before he committed suicide.

The Sheriff in is staying that all the animals had to be destroyed.  I us painful to see all the beautiful animals laying dead.  There is one Macaw monkey still free, but it is believed the monkey may have been eaten by a lion.

ABC News' Diana Sawyer asked Hanna, "How long is this going to haunt you?

"It's going to haunt me the rest of my life," said Hanna.

Pit Bulls are banned if you live in the city limits of Bexley or Reynoldsburg, and they are subject to additional restrictions in Gahanna, but it is okay to keep exotic pets.

Archie the arrow cat finds a home

Although no one has come forward to claim Archie, he is doing just fine with his new friends at the Auburn Veterinary Hospital.

Archie was picked up by Auburn animal control in June with an arrow in his left front leg.  Sadly, poor Archie had only one front leg, the other one was gone.

Usually, when a cat is found in this type of condition, they are euthanized, but Archie had a special personality, and a donor came forward to pay to have Archie fixed up.

The veterinarian put pins and plates into Archie's front leg and then splinted it.  He is healing quite nicely now.

All through Archie's ordeal, no one came forward to claim him, but he doesn't seem to mind, as he has happily taken up residence at the Auburn Veterinary Hospital.

Zeus missing from El Paso

Jackie Hughes' 3-year-old Great Dane, Zeus went missing last June.

While she has been searching for him and putting up posters, she began to notice that there were many other people with missing large pedigree dogs.

She said that Zeus is 130 pounds and he should have been found  by now, and believes the reason there is no sign of him is because some one has him.

Jackie wants to spread the word in El Paso and ask that dog owners be vigilant and make sure their gates are locked.

Zeus Facebook Page

Hopefully, the word gets out and everyone in El Paso can keep their eye out for Zeus and maybe whoever has him, has other dogs, too.

Zeus is a very large, beautiful dog and would be noticeable.

There is a $100.00 reward and if you have any information about Zeus' whereabouts, please call 915-487-0224.
